Mark Christopher Lawrence and Friends “Bring the Funny” to Cygnet Theatre

San Diego, CA - Mark Christopher Lawrence, Big Mike on NBC’s Chuck, hosts a night of comedy on Tuesday, September 21, at the Cygnet Theatre in Old Town. Headlining the event will be ventriloquist Kevin Johnson, who has appeared with his “friends” on America’s Got Talent and The Late Show with David Letterman. Also in the lineup are Frances Dilorinzo from Last Comic Standing and comic juggler David Kamatoy.

Kevin Johnson is a self-taught ventriloquist who has been entertaining family, friends, and fans since he was 9 years old. After honing his skills at the San Diego Zoo and Legoland, Kevin hit it big on America’s Got Talent in 2006, and achieved a life-long goal when he appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman. As Simon Cowell told him, “America loves you.”

David Kamatoy is the #1 Filipino-American comic juggler, quite possibly the only one, and has been entertaining crowds for years in front of the reflecting pond in Balboa Park. He will bring his mix of humor and juggling as the opener for the evening.

Featured comic Frances Dilorinzo’s career began, interestingly enough, in a required college speech class where she was encouraged to include humor in her presentations. She moved from there to the speech team and eventually to the comedy clubs of Los Angeles. She has appeared on Last Comic Standing, the Comics Unleashed, and Comedy Central, among other venues. She is currently working on the reality show Real Housewives of Orange County where she plays “the one with the real personality, sarcastic mouth, and smallest boobs.”

San Diego,CA- David Kamatoy bumped into Steven Banks, Head Writer for SpongeBob Squarepants at San Diego Comic Con 2009. They got into an impromptu interview where Steven Banks talks about writing the show for themselves as well as kids.

SpongeBob Squarepants enters it's Tenth Year. Steven Banks has been with the show for 5 years and really truly enjoys his job. His advice... "Don't Give Up!"

Ukulele Report: Ukulele Underground Visits San Diego...

The founders of www.UkuleleUnderground.com with Aldreine Guerrero are in town teaching a beginning and advanced workshop on the Ukulele. In addition they will be performing at Mo's Island Grinds today July 22,2008 at 6:30p.m..

I wasn't sure which class to take so I ended up in the beginning class which was a bit more rudimentary than anticipated but still well worth it. I stayed for the advance workshop which covered some strum patterns as well as some improvisation. This was more to my liking and skill set.

The two workshops were followed by a short set of Ryan on Guitar and Aldriene on the Uke. The crowd was uber impressed, Aldriene's technique is the real deal and has to make a decision if he really wants to pursue a more serious recording career. I hope he does, although we have Jake Shimbabukaro it would be great to have a few more contemporary Uke projects. (I'll work on it but it's still not my primary instrument....lol)

It's been almost 30 days since Steven Sloan gave me a Ukulele on my birthday. It was the week that we were in sessions for the Derek Stroh Project which is heavily guitar driven so I guess I got the bug. My intention behind the Ukulele was a bit comedic to be honest, then I started looking into the new wave of Ukulele seemingly inspired by Jake Shimabukuro and found Ukulele Underground. Aldreine has videos covering how to play more contemporary pieces as well as more aggressive strumming and pick styles.

Ukulele Underground is a great example of a blog, video podcasting model. so check it out just for that....
