San Diego,CA- Dan, Dan, Dan and I met today. Dan McLellan (DanMcLellan.com), Dan Leavitt (DanielLeavitt.com), Dan Hall (Website to be announced..lol) and David Kamatoy (DavidKamatoy.com) met today to discuss the marketing strategy for jugglemail.com, Kamatoy Media Group and in brief the future of larger projects.
The comedy of the meeting was of course there were three Dan's in the rooms and me. So we had decided to revert back to our days at private school by speaking to each other as Mr. McLellan, Mr. Leavitt and Mr. Hall.
In this meeting we continued to identify the three primary sources of income and focus of the outbound sales pitches and ultimately the Brand(s) that we want to be pushing. We identified a couple of things that might be of use to you...
1. Surround yourself with people that support your BIG PICTURE: Our goal as a company is to use our skill to support our clients but balance that time by creating our own brand of entertainment and media.
When I started in the entrepreneurship game I traded being surrounded by actors to being surrounded by business people. One of the challenges that artists have is when working in the REAL WORLD a lot of people don't get that while your great at the JOB it's not your passion. As people see you 8 hours a day as THE JOB PERSON they have a hard time seeing you as anything else artist, musician, actor and even an entrepreneur with a new idea.
So now we are reorganizing the team to include a large part of entertainer/entrepreneurs people that share the passion for both worlds but understand the concept of being in dress rehearsal for HELL WEEK or shooting a 14 hour music video shoot and they need the team to cover a few projects while they are gone.
When you have a team member on board ask them point blank...
DO YOU BELIEVE THAT WE CAN ______________________?
2. Swing for the fences and play small ball: Entrepreneurs and Entertainers like to swing for the fences it's what we do best. However if you really examine how most of us make a living you begin to recognize that most of us also play small ball as well. Small shows, press releases, logos, little projects, etc. Unless your a trust fund baby or you've got a large project and your job is to raise capital.
In the last year we swung for the fences while playing small ball but we didn't create additional small ball services. In fact we lost some small ball clients while swinging for the fences. This year we will do both.
ENTERTAINMENT, VIDEO & AUDIO PRODUCTION, EMAIL MARKETING, SOCIAL MEDIA
We identified that our core services revolve around entertainment, video/audio production and email marketing/social media. More importantly this is where the conversation begins. So we are working on our marketing strategy to start with these "known" needs. We can use these services to extend into additional services but in looking back on our projects over the last year, most of the conversations started with. Hey I need a video? So what is a enewsletter? I need a podcast?
So while you may have multiple skills/ products to offer figure out what the most palatable one is. Decide what's going to get me into the most conversations. Which is going to tell the best story...
We will continue to be a business and media development company we are just changing the copy...
