A Chromebook is a laptop computer that is designed for a web based computer lifestyle.
Fom the site....
A Chromebook is a mobile device designed specifically for people who live on the web. With a comfortable full-sized keyboard, large display and clickable trackpad, all-day battery life, light weight, and built-in ability to connect to Wi-Fi and mobile broadband networks, Chromebooks are ideal for anytime, anywhere access to the web. They provide a faster, safer, more secure online experience for people who live on the web, without all the time-consuming, often confusing, high level of maintenance required by typical computers. -Chromebooks on Google.com

It wasn't long ago that someone I think from HP as well as others realized that Computers are fast becoming peripherals of the WEB vs. the other way around.
The launching of the Chromebooks is the next step up on the curve of web integration.
I think this is a smart move from Google with the growing use of GOOGLE DOCS, VOICE, ANDROID this makes a ton of sense. As I've stated one of the problems I had with the pad integration in general was that the lack of a keyboard really limited the productivity of any long form writing. As it turns out a lot of people do not write that much. There are tons of entertaining things and short form productivity writings that are accomplished on PADS.
So where does the Chromebook fall... Somewhere between a netbook and a Droid phone or pad probably. I believe that the level of productivity that you'l be able to get out of this + it's price point is going to be the selling point.
WILL I GET ONE?
Maybe especially since we work heavily on google docs it might be good for the team.
1. As a Non-native Mac guy the ipad does not hold that much attraction for me until I reinegrate fully back into MAC.
2. Quite interested in the Archos 9 windows 7 Dual core tabplet pc with a SSD. Since I work in windows a lot right now.
3. Then interested in a droid and ipad so that we can see what are projects look like on these formats.
The iphone changed the smartphone market followed by ipad. In the interim googles Android quickly grabbed hold while as you know Palm tried and failed to keep up. Blackberry continues to fight back and has ton of loyal followers so I don't see them losing at any great length
Las Vegas, NV- Sears Blue tool Crew hosted a cocktail and hors d' oeuvres event for the Media. The party featured some new tools with a DJ providing the soundtrack.
The real story was the showcasing of the new Sears Blue Tool Crew a sort of Handyman Hotline to get your questions answered for anything having to do with a HARDWARE product bought at Sears. A life line for tools, a GEEK Squad for Screwdrivers...
The team demonstrated logging into the website and requesting help. Within minutes the phone ideally rings with an attendant ready to interact and answer questions.
Dan McClellan and I had a chance to talk with the leads of the division, social media and the PR company taking the lead.
Sears is taking an aggressive stance and embracing the social media model of interacting with their customers via phone, email and social media. They are utilizing many of the strategies that we talk about on "Blog This With David Kamatoy" and implement with Kamatoy Media Group and our assorted projects: No More Geysers, jugglemail, and CraigGFrancis.com.
We captured some footage today and are planning on interviewing a few more of the principals tomorrow.
It's exciting to see one of the oldest BRANDS in the United States embracing Social Media.
So stay tuned because it's clear that we are collectively re-writing the play-book as we go...

Fun Fact: Sears founded in 1886
San Diego, CA - Episode 2 of "Blog This with David Kamatoy" is now available on Viddler, YouTube, and DavidKamatoy.com. Emarketing is the focus for this episode covering blogs.com, twitter tips, and Mick Moore's "Home Business Success Kit," a home education kit for starting an online business. The show also briefly touches on the iPad launch and the not so surprising Ricky Martin entertainment news.
The show starts off with a notably bright change in its virtual set, "The tone of the show is rather tongue-in-cheek anyway, so going with the bold strokes crayon-type news set is kinda fun." says host David Kamatoy.
On the first part of the show David features Blogs.com, a top ten blog site run by Six Apart, "A great resource for successful blogs." WrongButFunny.com is highlighted as blogger Brad French's Peep Photography was chosen for the Top Ten in the Chicago Tribune's annual "Peeps Diorama Contest." Twitter sites to explore include splitweet.com, tweetdeck, and mashable. David also talks about comically being denied access to a twitter group promoting blogs and a somewhat annoying example of email marketing. Ricky Martin's unsurprising revelation of his personal preferences also pops up in this section of the show.
The second part of the show is a promotional interview between TV Personality Terry Burhans and Mick Moore, The Internet Entrepreneur.

The new HP EliteBook apparently is going to run i5 or i7 processors with a capacitive touch screen. ARG OH YEAH.
Core i5 or Core i7 processor, a reinforced glass screen, and a touch interface that will also work with an included pen. The 2740p (and its non-tablet sibling, the 2540p below) also meet military standards for high temperatures, dust, vibration and altitude, like its tablet predecessor the 2730p. Built-in HP DriveGuard technology also builds some impact resistance into the design.
I use a Gateway Tablet Convertible now for editing and once you get into the groove for using the stylus the whole process becomes quicker and a bit more user friendly.
While everyone is OOHING about the ipad I just keep thinking hey. There is a thing called a convertible tablet that's been around for a while and with the capacitive touch. Why pay for only part of a computer?
Anyway PC tablet heads you'll love this. From a consumer standpoint if you are interested in an IPAD (I still think they are cool.) Take a moment to check out a Tablet PC as well. It might be the computer your really looking for.
So one of the things that people are complaining about droid and other smart phones is amount of memory available for applications and/or applications not being able to be stored on cards vs. the main memory.
Apparently that's not a problem on the Palm Pre Plus...

I have been looking at Smart Phones again and the tech geek factor of the Droid is insane. 16-32 GB on a phone is quite cool. After reviewing the 40 the idea of having a connection to all the google apps is already exciting. Love to hear your thoughts especially if you've played with the iphone and/or palm pre as well. Master Google Android: 40 Tips and Tricks
The technology world is all a glee with the newest smart phone from the ones that started it all Palm with the Palm Pre available on the Sprint Network. Best Buy is going to be offering an instant rebate versus the mail in rebate. Very Cool.
We have been really excited to get one of these damn things as I have always been a palm fan as previously noted on the blog.
I used to have a Handspring with an Omnisky Modem allowing me to send email from my Handspring and in addition I had a foldout full size keyboard so I could type like a real man.
Yeah I was on the cutting edge...
It's pretty amazing how things have changed and one thing is clear. This thing is poised to be a hit. I'm glad that the iphone has a competitor it makes the field a bit more interesting to say the least.
I look forward to working on this new phone and getting rid of the bulkiness of the Treo.
Great Phone. But I miss the the thin phones as well. Going to get one of those as well.
It was the great Napoleon Hill that used to talk about entrepreneurs getting into their groove after 50 but 70 Cool...
