Consider looking at your online presence from an outsiders prospective. We meet for the first time and you hand me a card with your business and name. I go to the web and search for those things and the question is,”What comes up?” How many references and how far do those references go back.
BRAND THYSELF ONLINE
A quick to do list to start the brand of you from the (KMG) Kamatoy Media Group Team.
-Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet (II, ii, 1-2)
#1 Decide on a name that you can use across multiple sites.
Using a consistent name online is the first step in creating a consistent online presence. So that every post, tweet, message, press release has a common available via search.
If your name is taken and you have to use something creative just make it consistent. Most likely if you do the work to propagate the generic name will find relevance to the unique name.
GET YOUR NAME if you plan on being famous. Even if it’s available get it before someone else does. If you are an Actor you need to eventually check and see if your name is taken in SAG thus the concept of a screen name. While Hollywood PR people slept Internet geeks grabbed celebrities names first.
DavidKamatoy.com, Facebook.com/DavidKamatoy Twitter.com/DavidKamatoy
NoMoreGeysers.com Facebook.com/nomoregeysers twitter.com/nomoregeysers
#2 GET YOUR URL / Twitter / Facebook / etc.
- YOUR DOMAIN
- YOUTUBE /GMAIL/
- DAILYBOOTH (Its may seem young but then so did Myspace & Facebook.)
1. Get a Domain at GoDaddy or another Registrar.
2. Get a twitter account that matches. Twitter limits names to 15 characters. Sometimes you have to be creative and remember you can always drop the URL into the bio section and constantly propagate the main URL via messages.
EXAMPLE: MarkChristopherLawrence.com but twitter account is twiiter.com/MarkChrLawrence
3. Slowly but surely customize your online presence. We suggest have a consistent message whos voice can change a bit based on the social media site. Linkedin is a very business/resume oriented site versus say facebook or the extreme of Dailybooth.
#3 Start a Blog connected to your project or name.
WHY? Because its content that you own and control. Remember myspace, facebook twitter is not owned by you and they can delete you at anytime.
We use both Typepad and Wordpress and can make a recommendation based on your situation.
#4 Jugglemail.com / Create and keep your own database.
Jugglemail 3.0 is not just an email marketing platform but a Customer Relationship Manager and Team manager as well.
Remember unless your a shareholder you do not own myspace, facebook or twitter. Therefore it makes sense that you secure, grow and market to your database via email. We believe that outside of the phone and in person. That email should be to closest form of communication. We do not propagate the [email protected] mentality because email should be a two way communication.

#5 Web Based Press Releases
Consider doing press releases on the important things. Like new features, clients, projects via our Transworldnews connection so that it gets into the search engines. You might not think stuff is important but then again how important is it that Kate Gosselin gets a new haircut.
We at KMG can do press releases via Wooeb/Transworldnews that get into the news search engines. (Contact us directly via email or call 619-573-9456)
If you've accomplished something. Securing a new client, getting a patent, having a grand opening. Get it into the search engines so that when that client looks you up there are references.
This is meant to be the starting point of your brand on the web. The next step is obviously content and then distributing that content. It’s a matter of time and money and how much you want to focus on this.
However the worst thing would be to ignore it. In 2005 we were pulling teeth trying to get small businesses to realize that everything was moving towards social media. Now you walk into major retail stores and there are signs that say FOLLOW US ON TWITTER.
There is still time to be slightly ahead of the curve but it takes a decision to move your brand to the web and find a unique voice.
