Longtime Federal Official Killed in Car Crash Near Balboa Park
I had the honor of interviewing George Peel Chandler on my Radio show in 2005, it was right before he was about to retire. This public servant spent a 25 years working with the SBA here in San Diego leading the country at times with SBA backed businesses. Before that he was a engineer with NASA on Apollo 11 and 13.

In the interview we talked about business and the SBA but Kevin, my engineer and I had the most fun when switched to talk about NASA. We asked him was he there when the words rang out...
He said yes. Kevin went on in amazement as he asked about that moment in the movie where all the slide rules came out. George proceeded to tell us that multiple people did calculations to confirm any computation.
Right after the show I called to Thank him and he said your welcome but was hurried as "24" was on and he and his wife were fans of the show.
It was a great evening to interview someone that had a part in a moment in history and then went on to help support and fund so many businesses here in our own San Diego, CA. The reality is that many of the businesses we take for granted were started with SBA Loans.
Mr. Chandler, you will be missed.
