5 Show Day ends without a Volunteer...

San Diego,CA-  Balboa Park So today Stephen Sloan aka Sleeveless the Magician and I did several shows. They were in for the most part what we expected from the Holiday Season. Although comedy is much funnier when it is colder. I find myself being hit harder by the cold these last two days than in the past. Yesterday it definitely affected the crowds attention span as gusts of wind went directly onto the crowd creating a little wind chill factor. Basically standing in one place for an extended period of time can not be that comfortable.

The good news is that today and for the rest of the week it should be warmer. If you are visiting please remember to bring a jacket. There is still a chill in the air, in the shade and it  definitely gets colder around 3:30 to 4:00 p.m. consider bringing a blanket and sitting on the ground when watching the shows.

Two odd happenings today...

1. The last show of the day I could not find a volunteer for the trick. Which was only magnified by the fact that I I set up the trick. Normally when I know there is no finale I skip it and call it a show. It was weird because I had a sizable crowd, they were obviously having a good time and I had to bail. The only good thing about it was the fact that I was already exhausted and it was getting colder. It was just a strange way to end the day...

But wait there's more..

2. As the last crowd faded away I began picking up and noticed keys that were left in the crowd. These were not just rental keys but obvious "life" keys. you know house, car with an alarm, garage, storage etc. So as the lost and found was closed I waited....The other performers hung out for a while but they bailed  and I just stalled the pick up with a little ukulele.  My friend  and fellow performer Randall found me though and we talked for a while.

Finally... she appeared the woman with the missing keys. Apparently they had parked far away though so it took a while for them to realize that they had lst them and came back.

She was grateful that I had waited and we talked for  a while about the adjusting house market seemingly coming back to normal after  the bubble as she was in Real Estate

That being said. I had every intention of doing a little work tonight but even as I type my fingers are hurting. lol. We'll see how far I get this post is a good step

I am a huge dual screen user. It's one of the ways I multitask. So much of our work is done is social media and large applications. Often we use dual screens for writing and copying, moving various files from different applications. (Right now I am writing on one screen while watching Bloodrayne 2. on Netflix, It's a Christmas movie.)

Dual Screen Laptop would be perfect except for the price, $3600. I would have to be extremely mobile a lot in order to have to justify that price. Maybe they'll send me one because I wrote this post. lol Seriously though this would be cool.

24 hour day with a 40 min nap in the middle...What was I thinking

San Diego,Ca- As I am trying to finish projects before the Holiday begins I found myself in extra overdrive on Thursday night. We were shooting Dan's kids Christmas show in Temecula, CA early in the Friday morning which is about an hour drive from San Diego,CA.

So the plan was to work into the evening, drive up late, sleep for a few hours and then shoot the show. Well I had to pick up a ton of equipment and did some extra driving in doing so and while preoccupied with all the tasks and the laundry list of equipment I ended up running out of gas about 3 miles from the office. lol

So there I was wearing "All Black" at 1:30a.m. on an off ramp having to walk to in the dark to the Gas Station. Comically enough I saw two cabs drive by in the distance. It was great excercise but not at 1:30 in the morning. Even more comical was once I got the gas into the car I drove back to the same gas station where I got the gas and there was a cab. Where was this guy 30 minutes ago...

Anyway, I finished my work at the office took about a 40 minute nap and then loaded the truck and drove to Temcula, CA for the show. The gig went well with no incident and the kids were great. The audience was composed of parents as the entire school was in the Christmas show. Worked for the first time with a gentleman that Dan works with Nathanial who mixed the show. Now we have to edit...

Thanks to potent mix of b-12 and caffeine I was fine but when I got back to the office at about 2p.m. I basically collapsed lol. So much for a four hour work week.

Antikythera computer built and working 2,000 years later...take that Vista lol

The original Antikythera computer was found on board a ship broken and fused together dated back to 150 B.C. technology like this would not be seen for another 1,000 years.

Several attempts have been made using the 81 parts found via 3d modeling, xray etc. to recreatea and reconstruct  a working Antikythera with no success.

Oddly enough an amateur Michael Wright, a former curator at the Science Museum in London, has built a replica of the Antikythera, which works perfectly. COOL!

"A dial on the faceplace featured the Greek zodiac and an Egyptian calendar; pointers showed the location of the moon and the five planets known at the time. On the machine's back, an upper dial shows a 19-year calendar (matching the solunar cycle) and the timing of upcoming Olympic games. A lower dial shows a 76-year cycle (when the Olympic and solunar cycles coincide) and indicates the months in which lunar and solar eclipses can be expected."

Brings up a ongoing question though. If we were so ahead of ourselves technology wise 2,000 years ago, what happened? Was technology the victim of those in powe?. Could be, I mean look how long it's taken us to get to green and fuel efficient cars.

1. BETTER COPY: home page now emphasizes that his jerky compares with any gourmet product sold in specialty stores, but costs $10 less per pound. As soon as he posted that information, Nemitz says, his sales increased by a pound a day.

2. EMAIL MARKETING: increased the frequency of the beefjerky.com newsletter, which includes seasonal special offers, from four to six times a year. Moving the newsletter sign-up box to the front page of the Website gained him an extra 1,500 e-mail addresses in six months.(WOW! REALLY, I WISH I NEW A GREAT EMAIL MARKETING COMPANY..OH WAIT THATS US www.jugglemail.com.!)

Two things that he has yet to act on

Store Distribution and the sponsoring of an eating competition.

These are not unlike suggestions that we make constantly to our clients, readers and listeners. Many of them find themselves in the same challenge. Copy and Email Marketing is an effective and cost effective move in general. At some point either a business will be limited or slowed by operating out of revenue or it needs to be capitalized.

In these recession filled times the good news is that copy, email marketing and social media are readily available and cost effective. We can help with those and when your ready we can also assist with more traditional buys.

We are learning though now that there many people out there with traditional advertising budgets that are still ignoring social media and email marketing this is where you can take advantage of the situation.

1. BLOG- Start covering his own progess using blogging and interact with customers to promote the product. Also we can get other blogs to cover the site.

4. AFFILIATE PROGRAM: Start a  BeefJerky.com affiliate program.

Chrysler shuts down all production...for an additional 2 weeks

Chrysler will be adding 2 more weeks to it's traditional 2 weeks off during the Holidays due to the obvious slowing of the American Auto Industry.

CBS.com Viewing Rooms are cool but...

Watching NCIS on CBS.com rigt now while blogging.

One of the new toys on CBS.com is the viewing rooms where you can watch online and comment and talk with other viewers. I have tried to do this but it seems a little computer heavy and more importantly I get thrown into the middle of the show. So I usually get out of it because I would rather watch from the beginning.

If there is a way to see a countdown until a show is played that would make it more user friendly. I love the idea but I still have not really played with it.

Has anyone used this. (By the way the cat and the mustache guy seem to always be in a room.)

For those of you who don't know video games are the largest money maker in the entertainment industry. Therefore it makes sense that the falling confused music industry would latch onto the rising star of the VIDEO GAME world.

I wonder if this means that the music from the video games will not be used. In addition will it make a difference to the video game companies use Interscope material in their video games Let's face it that is the DEAL.
