I dropped into Hollywood Video today and asked if I should grab CLEANER or 10,000 BC. The lovely Heather suggested that I watch CLEANER since it's been off the shelf since it hit the shelf and I can see why.
This was a nice piece for Samuel L. Jackson in a more subtle role he is graciously supported by a powerful cast of Ed Harris, Eva Mendes, Luis Guzman, Maggie Lawson a very cool appearance by Robert Forester and a nice showcase for Keke Palmer.
What makes this film incredibly engaging is that it is all about relationships and extended family. The extended family of police officers joined together by tragedy and scandal. Put it all together and it creates an interesting texture of morality issues and people continually covering for each other.
Directed by Renny Harlin who is no stranger to big budget productions like Die Hard 2 and The Long Kiss Goodnight. He also directed one of my sleeper favorites MindHunters which of course now makes more sense.
Perhaps the real emerging talent is Matthew Aldrich who apparently has 2 projects in development.
