San Diego, CA 5.6.2008-The American Idol of Street Performing is here in San Diego in the form of Seaport Villages own Spring Buskers Festival, acts will be competing for a Summer contract.
David Kamatoy can walk into a crowded room in San Diego and generally be recognized as that funny Philipino juggling guy in Balboa Park. While Dave’s past resume includes years of professional theater with Lambs Players theatre, local radio personality and even musical director of Fern Street Circus he is most known as that funny Filipino juggling guy in Balboa Park. That’s why it was such a surprise last year when David along with Brad French as “The Dave & Brad Show” lost the competition to “Mango and Dango” and a Polynesian dancing troupe.
“It was the American Idol Phenomena, the acts with the most votes won. We felt like Melinda Doolitle last year, this year I need votes and I’m asking for help.”
David Kamatoy is doing his solo act and competing against some of last year’s competition as well as “Project Dynamite”, a juggling duo and “Dot and Dork” a mime duo. So competition will be fierce to say the least, well as fierce as a street performers competition can be.
“I have had thousands of people see my show in the last two decades and I need to enlist the help of anyone that has seen or loved my show to vote. I love performing and the fact is that this competition is helping Street Performing become more recognized in San Diego. I still need the publics help to win.”
David Kamatoy’s juggling comedy show is a unique blend of juggling tricks and contemporary ethnic stand up that actually comes across as family entertainment. He has performed his show up and down the west coast from fairs, colleges, theatres, casinos and corporate events.
David will be performing at Seaport Village on Saturday May 10th,2008 at 11:00a.m. the West Plaza Fountain and Sunday May 11th,2008 at the East Gazebo at 3:30p.m. Voting Ballots will be available on site.
