I have recommended blogging for a lot of would be authors, people that want to build a brand etc. to BLOG. In it's infatuation it seems like a great idea. The challenge is WRITING...Most bloggers dont write as much as they should and they don't promote as much as they should.
Quick Tips...
1. WRITE DAILY AND WEEKLY: Most Blog Reading is during the week therefore M-F blogging in the morning is prime time. In type pad you can actually schedule the posts to go our in the mornings if you wish. I just write when I can.
2. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN ARTICLE VERSUS A POST: I think some people get caught in the, " I have to say something category" So every post becomes a chapter in a book. Written in the wrong voice. You can and should write articles of substance but it should not be the only thing you write. If you look at articles like the meat in the sandwich then your posts are like vegetables and condiments.
Post is short 1-3 paragraphs talking about a specific link to a website. Something that you feel your readers should know about, something that you would like to share.
3. COMMENT ON OTHER BLOGS DAILY to build traffic and subscribers.
QUICK BLOGGING MATH
20 days of writing a month 2 hours a day creating 2-3 posts or articles a day or 2-3comments would equal 40-60 posts a week, 40-60 links back to your website a month. In 12 months that would be 40 x 12 = 480 posts / 480 links back to your site etc. Creating a Substantial BLOG.
What do you want from your blog?
Credibility- Is almost instantaneous if you create a credible looking blog with a lot of posts and articles. However what you really want is...
Search Engine Optimization- If anyone types in the name of your blog or website you want your site to come up immediately in the search engines. What you really want is for any article or post to show up in the Search Engines. If your feeding into the blog search engines they come up immediately based on time posted.
Basically in a nutshell its the frequency of writing and then the links back to your blog. Assuming that you have done everything to feed into the search engines this should bring you a growing readership.
Income- Get Adwords on your site, join amazon, find affiliate programs that fit your category of writings. if you get to the point where you have substantial traffic you can charge for advertising on your blog, look at blogads.
Subscribers and Email List- Database Database Database- Build and Market to your Database no matter what your doing, you are defined by your database.
My blog, this blog has assisted in my credibility, established a web presence that is searchable and consistent. If you type in Kamatoy into Google this blog comes up number one. If I write an article about a client or website it's often found in Google and search engines because I have an established blog. In addition when I podcast I simply upload the file into the blog and it feeds directly into itunes, podnova, etc.
What I need next? More Subscribers! My readers are predominantly not bloggers they are clients, fans, associates, people on my email list or one of my 6,000+ myspace friends.
We and my team are striving for more subscribers from the blogging community as well as just expanding the database in general. We intend to do this through more content, more writing, podcasting etc. and then taking the show and that database to another level.
